Do these have any actual use in game or in fortress mode to me as a player?  Wiki just says the couldron is for liquid cooking, some various knives I know can be used as terrible weapons, stepladder of course to harvest fruit from trees.  Would my dwarves use some of these others like a mortar and pestle or the cauldron if I traded for them from this human caravan or do my dwarves who have whatever specific skill that uses such a tool already have it when they migrated, etc.

Those tools apart from the stepladder have no use at the moment, eventually they might get added to fort mode though.

Thats what I thought but when the human traders suddenly had some insanely expensive cauldron and a pimped out mortar and pestle it threw me off.

These are only useful as source of metals if buy and then melt them.
