Dwarf staying idle
« on: December 17, 2014, 12:19:27 pm »

I can't open a thread in bug reports for some reason, so I'll post here, maybe I'm missing something.

I haven't played DF for a while and started now again with 40.19 + Phoebus Graphic Set + DFHack. I have a new fort, only a few ingame-weeks old, and one of my dwarfs is staying permanently idle. She is a mason and architect and for the first days she was also assigned to hauling, but she didn't haul anything. Here she is.

Now I built two masonries because I have two masons, started building rock blocks via the manager and while the other mason constructed both masonries and started working, she is still staying idle for the whole time.

Bug or something else I am missing? She has assigned mason and building designer and nothing else, same setting (and skills) as the other mason who is working fine.

Sorry for my poor english, it's not my mother tongue.

She isn't part of a burrow that is restricting her movement?  That is the only thing I can think of.

Was she previously in combat or sparring? I've had that happen only post-combat. The dwarf in question stood still until he died of thirst and starvation, in the rain, as if trapped in carbonite. There was nothing anyone could do. I'm told that if you mine out the area under the dwarf, and they fall, the bug can be fixed, but I have no idea if it's true.

Also,
1) Make sure she isn't trapped. You know sometimes a wrong stairway or door can trap a dwarf.
2) Recruit her, create a  squad in (m)ilitary menu and add only her. Station her (s)quad elsewhere, see if she follows your order. You can disband the squad later.

...

I checked everything now and realized that she is trapped on the other side of the river. ::)

I'm just curios how she got there - I have no bridge built until now and it's a warm area so the river wasn't frozen. That's why I didn't even thought about that.

Never mind, problem solved.

Perhaps she fell into the river and was lucky enough to reach the shore?

Water depth at the map edge always fluctuates a bit. Sometimes dwarfs manage to catch a moment when water there is 3/7 or less all the way through and use the occasion to path to the other side. Alas, such moments are rare, so they usually end up stranded on the far bank.

Yeah, the river is constantly drained from the lower end.
