Will savage animals appear in wilderness+ or only untamed wilds?

Define "Savage"
If you want to get rid of dangerous animals try reducing the large animals criteria when you generate your world.

Anything with [savage] and is above ground.

All the most dangerous animals will show up in savage biomes, some exclusively.
This wiki page might be able to help you.

On an unrelated note, if gobs are present will they be able to attack me even if they don't show in the faction list.

I asked this recently in this thread.  Apparently the answer is no.

[SAVAGE] animals will happen only in savage biomes, aka Untamed Wilds, Joyous Wilds (good) and Terrifying (evil).

Also apparently there are more animals in savage biomes, but I'm not quite sure.

Also savage biomes aren't dangerous in vanilla DF unless you embark on a glacier (which are always fun). There are plenty of pointless, harmless animal men and giant animals around, and they do nothing.

Aye, I've never embarked in a savage region and been immediately overrun by ravenous beasts.  Once I learned this I almost exclusively embarked in savage areas so I can farm whip vines (higher value booze and the flour is worth 25 a unit!) Most of the "savage" critters are just larger versions of benign creatures.  Even though these things are massive, they still tend to flee from your peasants.  The animalmen will also keep to themselves.  However... Animal men are intelligent and could be trained (by elves) in previous versions.  They couldn't work, but they'd act like actual citizens of your fort.  They'd hang out in your dining room and eat (meat) there.  While they'd never work, they could still gain skill levels.  Hilariously, they'd often wind up as mayor of your fort since, like children, all they would do is hang around and chat XD.  Mayor Tony the Tigerman, this fort is GRRRRREAT!

Yeah, I remember the time of Stray Tigermen (Tame) bought from the elves. It was nice, why did it go away ?

I always embark in high savagery areas, it's just more fun. Don't high-savagery biomes give you two creatures on the map at a time instead of one, or something like that?

I have yet to find a use for animal men, because you can't butcher them and can't tame them. If you generate an entire world with high savagery you get more dwarfs with preferences for savage creatures, so I guess for zoo/happiness purposes that works, but otherwise.... they seem to just exist to clog up cage traps. Target practice, I guess?
