(not sure if i could create a thread but whatever.)
I was wishing to create a human monastery themed sort of embark, but i want to know first how much do the gods affect gameplay.
Also asking because the manual is very skeptical about it.

The more you pray, the more merit you gain. And if your religion merit is high enough, the gods might intervene on your behalf. Effects of such intervention are affected by the domain of the respectful god - for example, a chaos god will cause your enemies to fight among themselves, while a family god will positively affect birthrate of your fortess.

Yes i did see that on the manual but i created a test fort one time and i separated a "monk" just for praying. thouht i never saw any benefits.
and i'm asking because i wanted this fort to have more of a real gameplay wise challenge than being just a background obeying (or following)
thing. But if that is all the info available i thank you :D
