levels 'higher' than legendary +5 are irrelevant - they have exactly the same effect as legendary +5, which is why Therapist doesn't bother trying to tell you about it.  However, I think you might be able to see this representation elsewhere in one of Therapist's sub views - I do not have the program on this machine to check though.

Wait, so Legendary isn't the highest a dwarf can achieve in a skill?  I always thought that being a legendary miner was just the best it got?

When I first started playing around with the DFHack scripts provided with the starter pack I used make_legendary all on a few dwarves to help me learn the game, etc.  It would make every skill available legendary level.  NOW YOU TELL ME THATS NOT THE BEST?!?>!>!>!>! OH NOES.

You CAN get levels past legendary. There is a MAJOR difference between militiadwarves who are legendary+5 through danger rooms and miltiadwarves who are legendary+1894595 from being dropped onto a training spear from 2 z-levels up. It just doesn't make as much of a difference with non-combat skills.

How can you tell what level of legendary they are?  Is there a way inside the game or is it something you just have to use therapist or some other 3rd party tool to see?

No, there is no way inside the game to know what level of legendary they're on.

There's also no way in game to know how big somebody is.

No, you have to use a 3rd party tool. Legendary+X isn't as much of an improvement over Legendary+X-1 skills as say, Adequate is over Novice, so there has to be a HUGE level disparity[In the prior bugged Legendary+12445435 vs Legendary+5 example]for it to make much of a difference and you can only really get higher then legendary+10ish for all practical porpoises with bugs/exploits.

I could have sworn there was a size description at the bottom of the "v" window. Something along the lines of "Gigantic, but weak" or something like that. I thought that it just wasn't useful because it was only RELATIVE size for that species.

Relative size is pretty darn useless to know.

The lack of any in-game absolute size measurement system is why it took many years just to find an infamous "90% creatures do not grow up in size" bug.

Therapist shows RAW level in a skill if hovered over. Im wondering if there is a difference or if there is a curve to the effectiveness of levels past legendary, one might test this by grinding a warf up in levels and counting the qualities, higher levels past legendary usually result in more masterpieces in my experience.

On a side note I always find the initial post for the shaft of enlightenment hilarious no matter how many times I read it.

That script actually sets skills to Legendary+5 (it's one of Vjek's scripts).
