...Or so I think. I pressed F11 and F12 a couple of times when DF was in the "loading world" stage, which freezes it and thaws it when it's done. This caused it to go into fullscreen with nice graphics on, both of which I hate. (I got previous experiences with a computer-breaking bug with minecraft on fullscreen, and I simply don't like the nice graphics).

I managed to get out of this by using the magic Sysrq+REISUB key sequence, which forcefully reboots the system while minimizing data corruption (I run Linux). I tried pressing ctrl+alt+del, switching workspaces, pressing escape, none worked. After some pressing around I found that the keyboard did not respond altogether, although pressing Numlock and caps lock did cause the LEDs on my keyboard to change. (Scroll lock did not, but that never works on my OS). The flash GFX that is done by my OS did not trigger when pressing the Printscreen button, either. I think that whatever happened caused a kind of serious failure that was not caught by my OS but somehow did not cause a kernel panic as the magic sysrq worked(That won't work after a kernel panic, which freezes the whole system altogether).

There doesn't seem to be any kind of data-corruption aftermath but I am still worried about this. What could have happened?

The best way to demonstrate it to him is take a save of 40 year old fortress with 150 dwarves in it on a good sized embark with a volcano that just breached the circus and install it on his gaming rig and watch it bring his rig to its knees.
