Captain of guard using fists instead of weapons

My captain keeps using fists to beat criminals instead of his masterwork steel axe. How can I fix that?

That's an interesting question. Most people enjoy that he uses non-lethal punishment on production order violators.

Does he have higher wrestling skill than weapon skill? (Not sure how that would affect combat, since nothing's attacked me in 0.40.x yet.) Are you sure he/she is wielding the axe?

Well I think it was intended?

At least mine didn't use his spear.

It was beating, not execution.

Beating is supposed to use blunt only... Maybe it has something to do with.

A beating will be doled out with his fists.
It's a non-lethal (sorta) punishment

A hammering will be hammered.
It's intended to be lethal or nearly so.

I read that guards with weapons would use them in the dwarf wiki.
I'm enjoying raising his body count, even among fellow dwarves ^^

Well, sometimes the wiki contains hilariously outdated info. AFAIK the "guards dole out axings instead of beatings" _bug_ has been mostly _fixed_ for .34. I never felt like verifying it, though.

Beatings are also intended to be non-lethal - beating-caused deaths in DF2012 (haven't had any in DF2014) show up as murders on the justice screen.

Not anymore, my captain managed to kill a dwarf by a beating ( is a vampire with maxed attributes ) but it's not showed in the crimes page.

My beatings are always lethal because the fucker keeps going for the face. Trained dwarves hit like railguns. :-\
