So, I've never seen one kobold before now since I switched to 40.xx. But finally, last night, kobolds arrived! I set out a few steel swords on the ground by my gate, and ordered everyone inside, closing the gate. That pair of kobolds grabbed the swords and ran. What a pair! How many times will I have to do this before kobold sieges show up? I remember in 34.11 my main enemy, number wise, was always kobolds. Thieves in the dozens, and even full on sieges often. Even being at war with goblins and elves never brought as many kills as the kobolds.

Kobolds don't send sieges, but they do send ambushes if they find they are successful, or as the wiki puts it:

If the kobolds are successful in multiple thieving attempts, they will grow kobolder and send squads of armed kobolds to raid and pillage your apparently defenseless fort.

If you want to make them REALLY successful, create a stockpile for artifact-quality finished goods outside your fortress and leave your more useless artifacts there... though this may trigger a dwarf or two to go insane, so it depends how much you love Kobolds as to whether you want to do that or not... (I'm guessing a lot since you just gave them two steel swords...)

Or you can just slaughter the next caravan don't claim their goods and let them rot in the sun. That tend to summon a lot of rats.
