Internships
« on: November 20, 2014, 07:40:36 pm »

When it comes to internships does it matter if they're unpaid or not? Are they so helpful that not getting paid is fine because later you may just be able to work full time?

Any stories and opinions are welcomed. :)

From what I've heard generally paid internships are generally a better experience, since the people you are working with actually value your time more since they are giving something up for it. I'm still not quite there in my chosen career yet though, so if somebody else comes in here saying otherwise pay me no mind. :P

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Always go for paid internships first and foremost, only go for unpaid if it's the only choice you have left.

Unpaid can work if you still live with family or family can support you, but that can present a problem if you have to travel to work there.

That said, Unpaid Internships are still better than no work at all or work that has nothing to do with your career path.

We pay our interns. There's a lot of research and graph making and such that needs done and people that could do it are usually traveling on business. I don't know that much about them as they're not mine to manage. But I think unpaid intern jobs can actually be more demanding sometimes, because it's a "privilege" to intern there if they're actually trying to get you experienced for a field.
