« on: November 10, 2014, 07:09:26 am »

Hey guys,
I've been genning worlds quite a bit but I never get one with a vampire dwarf in it.
Hoe can i get myself a vampire?
I dont mind if its cheaty, as long as I can reproduce with 100% succes :)
I've been wanting to do a vampire fort (AWESOME) for quite some time but I never seem to get a vampire  :-\

With the default world generation settings I have yet to get a world -without- vampires, although it can be tricky to locate them. (don't know how to search the world raws for this).

I would quess that increasing the amount of vampire types might help getting vampires at world generation?

Maybe someone can point out a method to find vampires in Legends of whatever.

I'd say the chances are pretty high on default to get atleast a single vampire.. which would be enough to get your vampire well up and running.

I can send you one of mine... :P...most of my forts (like the current one) start popping up bloodless corpses by the third year or so.

Vampires come from people getting cursed by the gods in world-gen, so you can increase the chances of getting one by extending the amount of history in world-gen and picking a civ with a lower-than-normal population. (Or simply put: 2 in 500 verses 1 in 5000)

If planning to do a vampire fortress, be aware that while dwarven vampires will not drink alcohol, they will still suffer from the effects of alcohol deprivation, meaning they will become progressively slower as time goes on.

A workaround for this issue is possible by modding dwarven blood to have a syndrome that temporarily removes the alcohol dependence tag, which will reset a dwarven vampire's alcohol deprivation whenever they drain a dwarf.

I want to tell you they were bad men, cephalo.  I want to tell you that with a better overseer the Fortress never would've gotten so bad someone would get offed in a pointless fisticuffs.
But the sad truth charlie?
It was inevitable.

The first thing I thought when reading the post title was a blood-sucking hamster leaping from neck to neck.  The killer bunny from The Holy Grail was a close second.
