Need some advice on how to keep this dwarf from drowning horribly

So I was trying to build an indoor well and long story short this dwarf didn't exactly do things the way I planned. Now he's trapped in there and the water will rise indefinitely until he drowns. Now, normally I wouldn't care much about one death but I'm pretty sure He'll contaminate the water with his rotting corpse, and i'm also worried he'll start haunting the fort, since there isn't an easy way to retrieve the body. Any ideas?

Have a miner dig a staircase down to him.

(also, there are like eight corpses in my well with no consequences other than people getting horrified whenever they use it.)

In the wall right next to him, designate an up-stair to be dug. Then, in the floor above, designate a down stair. The miner will dig the downstair, then make the upstair. The upstair will flood instantly, but provide path for the dwarf to escape.

If there is pressure involved, be sure that you can contain the UPWARD flow, if that is a concern.
