Question in title. Is it possible to assign a squad to a particular barracks - I know you can set them to sleep in rooms, beds or on the ground via the military interface, but I'd like to assign particular squads to sleep near regular trouble spots even if they're off duty.

don't think you can assign them to barracks..

unless i suppose you make the leader own one.. not sure how that works..

is there any point in sleeping in barracks? (aside from being close to possible action) one of mine grumbled about not sleeping in proper room or some such... sheesh

I keep a single barracks so I don't have to worry too much about carving new rooms for immigrants. It allows my miners to concentrate on things like building me warehouse rooms or noble rooms.

Not to mention the fact that with a double stone carve they keep those homeless dwarves quite content; more so than having to smooth out an entire block of apartments and increase the rent to keep dwarves with homes content.

Yes, he'd sleep there but his followers would just sleep wherever. I think having a big single barracks is probably the best way to go.
