Cat drools
« on: October 06, 2014, 05:49:24 pm »

So this stray cat that decided to live in my back yard has a slight problem. She loves being petted, to the point that she starts to drool if it's more than a couple of strokes. And then she likes to rub her cheek against my hand, getting the drool on me. If I pick her up, which I did once or twice and regretted it, I get cat drool on my shirt. I guess I could simply not pet her, but I'd just like to check if anyone here has encountered this problem and solved it.

It's probably old and missing a tooth or two, which would cause it to drool. Or it is rabid  :o
The cheeck rubbing is perfectly normal feline behaviour. It means they're marking you as their territory / friend with the scent glands cats have on the sides of their cheeks. They shouldn't cover you in drool though while doing that.

My cat drools when you get petting him so do a few other cats I interacted with do the same, I think its more of a cat per cat basis.

Yep, i know cats who drool as well. When it comes down to it... they're cats and don't care about petty human morals or courtesy. They simply demand pets. And sometimes treats.

Well it's not fully grown yet, so I think all it's teeth are there (haven't checked, though). So yeah, I guess no more petting for this cat.

Your parents probably thought the same thing when wiping your butt as a baby, but they did it anyway. :P

The only other cats I know to drool, except missing tooth ones, are the flat-snouted breeds, like Persians. They come with a whole package of respiration problems, and drooling because of being incestuous throughbreds. Poor things.
