Recall the experiment
The experiment is an attempt to construct a new method of interstellar travel through exploitation of dimensional displacement. After initial testing to see if a small gateway could be established, a large-scale attempt to make a gate between the Silver Nova Facility and the Titan Complex was to be attempted. Initial testing did succeed, to the joy of most present, but you alone appeared to have concerns over a fog that was hanging around the gate. When your concerns were shot down, you had attempted to study it yourself. The attempt at the unauthorized start was probably assumed to be sabotage and you were taken to this area after they knocked you out.
Are our hands bound behind us or in front of us? If in front: start carefully moving around the room feeling for a flashlight, lamp, or light-switch. Also, what do we have on us right now?
Your hands are bound behind your back. Whatever is binding them feels to be at least a bit loose. You can't really check to see what is on you in your current position, but you can tell you are lacking your lab coat.
And why did we "go insane"?
You recall the people who came in shouting about you being insane before you were knocked out. By no means are you actually insane. You had a psychological evaluation two days before the test that came up with you being sane.
