Getting out of the water

My adventurer is standing on an up-ramp on the seashore.  How do I get *out* of the sea now?  <and> don't do anything, and walking towards the wall also doesn't do anything.  He seems to be drowning for some reason.

Oh, I think I figured it out.

I read the map wrong.  I didn't go from the beach down to a ramp on z-1.  I went from the beach down to a ramp on z-2.

So much for my mocking the french for tossing their kids into the deep end of the pool.
