Why... is this cat wearing clothing?
« on: October 06, 2014, 02:02:50 am »

I'm playing adventure mode in 0.40.12.  I just looked at a stray cat(Tame).  It's wearing a dress.  And four silk socks.  And shoes. And pants.  And a toga.  And a cloak.  And a hat.  Is this normal cat behavior? I don't remember any of my cats in fortress mode being dressed.

It might be related to Today's update in September, where you can read:

"Stopped fort animals from getting clothing during unretire after being visited by adventurer"

Aww! He thinks he's people!

It was fixed in 0.40.13.

He is probably a dwarf polimorfed by a syndrome. Check for dust.

In a hole in the ground there lived a dwarf. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a dwarf fortress, and that means magma.

...except that's not something that actually happens unless significant mods are being used (which the OP did not indicate, thus we must assume vanilla raws).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

It would be fantastic if it did tho.

Imagine getting attacked by a FB whose only attack was to transform dorfs into fluffy wamblers.

No one made a Cat in the Hat reference? Or a Puss in Boots reference?
Bay 12, I am disappointed.

Yes, vanilla raws.  Fresh world, with no fortresses played in it.  And yet, I have a steel shield and a steel breastplate.  How did that happen?  Took them off of goblins, of all things.  Isn't that another thing that isn't supposed to happen?

DF continues to amaze me...

But.. but.. those are male cats. This one has a dress and toga. It must be Bastet!

This was a fantastic bug. Animals had clothing and you couldn't walk into a town without FPS slowing to a snail's pace because there was also a bug where towns would have thousands upon thousands of animals. So, instead of your typical cat-splosions, and your typical sock-splosions, you would have thousands upon thousands of cat-sock-splosions that would crash the game. It was so utterly dwarfy we called bullshit on the "accident" and Toady said nothing more.   :-X  :D

Reminds me of when I sloppily modded gorillas to use in adventure mode (and use weaponry/armor/backpacks) and got this:

If I'd looked at the body layout I would have been warned that gorillas have 4 (sandaled) feet, and no hands :D Pleasant surprises :>
