Spelunky  is a good platformer, but some what action game.

Age of Wonders 1 and 2 (turn based strategy) for sure let you hot seat. I think Shadow Magic does as well.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2-4 do for sure, I THINK at least #5 as well.

Warlords 1, 2, and 3 (really old and hard to fine, but fun startegy games.)

Ground Control 2 DOES NOT let you play on the same system, but it is old enough that it will probably run on his laptop. It is an RTS

Great suggestions, Magika and Monaco look great.

Just to reiterate I'm NOT looking for hot-seat games, unless they were super fast paced (like worms). Feel free to list them for others who are looking though.

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Possibly "Little Fighter 2"? It's a side scrolling beat'em up with simple super moves amongst a variety of different characters. It was more of a thing around 2004 but I think the game was developed for some time after that.

I remember someone mentioning that the later versions changed the music or something, and not to the better, so maybe look for an earlier version but I can't say which one exactly.

Edit: I could also suggest "Mugen" which is a free fighting game engine. It allows you to download and import characters and backgrounds made by people, and there are a lot of characters people have made. You can have Homer Simpson vs Kenshiro vs Deadpool vs Optimus Prime if you wanted.

Wow, Little Fighter 2.

That brings back memories.

Most of them are a hazy mess of running down the many corridors, fighting many battles with many enemies and many teammates, dieing horribly many times all the while not really having a clue what I'm really doing AND still having a crazy good time. Or good crazy time.

I think I'll go install it now.

Oh they know. Spiders are not stupid. They've just got disproportionally huge balls.
