((Sorry about not posting again, it's been crazy up here.  We've been getting ready for the next semester of college so I've been pretty busy.  I should be able to find time at some point today to write another update.))

Ustris readied his staff and quietly made his way to the center of the floor.  Around the opening was a low set railing, along with sets of low tables surrounded by cushions.  The only use this place had that Ustris could think of would be seating for a show of some sort.  He peered down into the pit to find that the courtyard seemed to be completely walled in.  He couldn’t see any entrances, and the floor seemed to be covered in sand, the floor of the courtyard also appeared to be beneath the first floor, lower than the rest of the house.  He was too far up and it was too dark down there to see anything, but he hazarded a guess that he was looking at an arena.  The area up here was too far to see anything properly, and if the Champion was affluent enough to have an arena in the first place, Ustris guessed that he’d probably have his rooms close enough to watch the “spectacle.”

After a moment of searching he found it.  A large, floor to ceiling window on the first floor.  The glass panes were thrown outwards and a red curtain hung in the opening.  Ustris couldn’t be sure, but he could have sworn that he heard a lilting tune coming from it, something from an instrument.  It was too far away for him to be sure though.  He turned to find Kleine and found that she was on the other side of the room, looking down what appeared to be a staircase.  He started over towards her, his mind racing on their next move.

Bumping until I get caught up.
Fortunately I should be able to acquire the password for my college's wifi.
Next week, of course.

How has this not gotten any suggestions? Urgh.

Head down the stairs slowly, crossbow and staff at the ready.
If we keep in mind the direction of the arena, it shouldn't be too hard to get to, even if the room below doesn't have a direct entrance.
Actually, in which direction is that window?

(('Tis looking out on the arena from the Northern portion of the palace.  I'll do a writeup for this tomorrow, bit late for me to start now.))

((We're currently in the supposed palace of one of the Skrellit Champions.  Good rumors and intelligence pointed us this way and now we're currently infiltrating it.  If we find the Champion then the chances for a fight are pretty damned huge.))

Okay, i'll stick by my vote. If we do find him maybe we can trow a fireball on the roof to collapse everything on his head.

Kleine started down the staircase, her crossbow raised, expecting anything.  Everything about this staircase screamed that it was to show off wealth; the steps were made of marble and had intricate carvings on each individual step.  The staircase itself was wide enough to allow five people of Ustris’ size to descend abreast, and the railings on each side seemed to be made from some sort of lacquered wood.  She couldn’t help notice the grandeur, she had been a slave to a rather prosperous merchant and this outshone his mansion in every possible way.

When she finally reached the landing she found herself at the end of a well-lit corridor.  About fifteen meters away she could see that the corridor intersected another, and everything past that intersection was currently dim.  She moved to the right side of the hall and began sidling her way towards the intersection.  So far she hadn’t seen another soul, everything was still except for the lights flickering from the extravagant braziers and chandeliers scattered throughout the corridor.  A noise and a muffled curse behind her told her that Ustris had finally descended as well.  She looked back for a moment and saw that the light was playing with Ustris’ staff, refracting dozens of times through his its crystalline structure.  After a moment of thought, Ustris unhooked his cloak and wrapped it around the staff.  He’d have to be careful to keep it wrapped however, the light might attract unwanted attention fast.

Ustris took up his position on the other side of the hallway from Kleine, and together they edged their way up towards the intersection.  They looked around the corners together, looking for any kind of movement.  Down Ustris’ corridor a door closed lazily, not latching for a moment before someone jerked it shut.  No other movement caught his eye however.  The hallway he scanned seemed to be less grand than what they had just been in, less wall hangings, and the carpet down the center of that hall seemed to be more worn than the one in the middle of their hall.  The door that shut was too small for a Skrellit to pass through comfortably.

Kleine’s corridor was empty, as empty as a finely decorated corridor can be anyway.  The flickering lights were once again the only things that moved.  She could see the end of the corridor here, branching off to the right.  Beyond that was out of her view, however.

The corridor across from them was still dimly lit, but they could see that it went on for quite some while.

   Where to now?

OOC:  You came from the South.  North is the darkened corridor, West is Ustris' and East is Kleine.  There is a very, very crude map here if you're utterly confused (I forgot to put 2nd floor on it, dammit).

Which way next?

Up the stairs
We literally just came down the stairs. :T

Sneak to the door. Both of them - either's particular offensive talents might be needed here. Listen carefully. If it's quiet enough, crack it open just enough to peek inside.

Ustris crossed over to the door while Kleine kept watch from her position.  Taking every precaution, Ustris first put his ear against the door, and then against the ground.  After almost a minute passed with no sounds coming to his ears Ustris motioned for Kleine to join him.

Inside they found what Kleine instantly recognized to be the servants’ passages.  Inside some of the larger Skrellits’ homes they built maze-like hallways that their human servants would use to stay out of their master’s sight but still be efficient.  All of the passages were connected and led to all of the important areas within the mansions, such as the kitchen, dining room, grand hallway and other rooms which needed attention.  Kleine’s experience told her that there would be at least one passage that would deposit them near the master’s chambers, so that maids could get in and tidy up whilst the master was away.  The passages were barely wide enough for two humans abreast to walk through, though they were tall enough to easily allow a Skrellit.  She assumed that was for any guards who were needed for reasons that certainly weren’t limited to, but did include, punishing a slave.  Kleine could move around easily in these passages, though Ustris didn’t have much room to move around in there.  He could still jab quite easily, but any swings were out of the question.

The passages appeared to run perpendicular to the corridor they were just in, but Kleine couldn’t guess for how much longer that would be.  She did know that most passages were quick and to the point, they’d find an area with people in it if they went much farther in either direction.

OOC:  I took the door suggestion because there's not much else up the stairs, unless you guys want to use the express route and jump back down the hole or something.  Anywho.  Updated map soon-ish, I forgot about it.  Also I'm extremely angry that I can't make myself go out and find a map editor or something to plot what I have down out.  Hell, I could totally make this entire place out in Dorf Fort and them take screenshots but I'm lazy as crap. >_>

Which way now?  North, South, or back out into the hallway and down a different corridor?
