Hello Community

I want to buy a DF compitable Laptop and need some advice, because I have no idea if those Laptops can calculate the awesomeness of an Dwarf Fortress Game:

Lenovo Flex 10

How I play DF (if Info needed):

World Sizes: anything but pocket
Embark Size: 4 x 4 / 5 x 5
Age of the World: 50 - 125 years
Population Cap: 100 Dwarfs

Do you think one of those Laptops would run passable?
Feel free to suggest one or two different Laptops.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Don't go with the Acer or Lenovo. I have both of those, 50 FPS is the normal max.

If you're using Windows, you'll want at least 4GB of RAM. Windows uses about two on its own, and DF needs a fair bit.

Don't touch Atom or Celeron. Avoid Intel GPU's. Just look for a Core i5 and GeForce GPU with 4GB or more RAM and you're set for most anything.

I think on that site, and for that price range, I would say this runs Dwarf Fortress much better.
Samsung NP270E5G-K03CH
http://www.steg-electronics.ch/de/article/samsung-np270e5g-k03ch-548900.aspx?section=TECH

CPU: Intel Core i5-3230M (2.60 GHz)
Memory: 8 GB (2x 4 GB) DDR3 (1600 MHz)

Those are the two stats Dwarf Fortress cares about, CPU single thread performance, and RAM speed.
CPU is a little faster then those you suggested, however this one has more RAM, and much faster, being dual channel 1600 vs single channel 1333
Also I'm pretty sure the i3 CPU is much faster then both the Pentium N(don't know what Pentium N is though, did you mean "Pentium M"?) and I'm quite sure it's much faster then the Intel Atom.
This laptop still has the Intel HD graphics card, which after testing a lot of laptops, I must say, this card is, and all Intel HD in general, USELESS for quite a LOT of things (although it will be fine for Dwarf Fortress, as it dosn't really use the graphics card as far as I know.)

Of what I find on that site, in the same price range as the others,(I'm assuming this is a store near you) I find this one the best overall:
Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1NG
http://www.steg-electronics.ch/de/article/toshiba-satellite-c55-a-1ng-455712.aspx?section=TECH

CPU, i5 4200 (2.5ghz), is about the same speed in statistics, but is Haswell instead of Ivy bridge.
Memory is 4gb and speed is not listed, so I'm assuming it's single channel 1333, but usually RAM can be upgraded easily.
And the important piece of difference: NVIDIA GeForce GT 710M
A graphics card that ISN'T Intel HD, VERY important for quite a lot of things.
Although Dwarf fortress is not one of those things the graphics card is useful for, it will greatly increase your options on what other things you can do with the laptop.

both of the laptops come with windows 8, which I'm NOT a fan of, but oh well..

I have not used these specific laptops, but again, for that site, those two are the ones I would consider personally.
hope this helps :)

EDIT: oh, and I have not actually ever tried playing Dwarf Fortress on a laptop, as I still feel the FPS on my desktop could be better, I have simply assumed I would not be happy with any laptop's performance.

You have to watch laptops.

Some of them use older architecture and an I-5 in some older laptops will state quad core, but upon looking at the model it's an Duo core with hyper threading to let you think it's a quad core.  I have a 4-5 year old I-5 Lenovo that is this way.

This is because of the heat generation laptops can create.  Designs for OEM systems are often created and used for 3-5+ years with little changes so you end up with 'Sales' on these things like this.

First thing to do once you get an ivy bridge Intel processor is look up if it's a first generation.

Ivy uses "Parking" and has issues where it can limit performance, you may want to unpark more than the 1st cpu. "Parking" is when the system shuts it down because it's not being used very often.  Then it has to 'unpark' it to use it, and then it will park it again.  Yes this saves energy cost, but it also causes some delays in time.

Your choice but there's ways to unlock them so they don't go up and down every 5s as the system tries balance cpu loads. I did that for mine.. was crazy how it was constantly wasting cpu cycles to park and un park processors.

The average internet surfer may not notice, but those of us who game or push systems with 3-4 cores running at 50-80% don't want a hiccup in an app because it's switching load to a new core and has to unpark it.
