Dead Rising 3...
« on: September 05, 2014, 06:18:58 am »

Despite originally being billed as an Xbone exclusive, Dead Rising 3 has now shuffled its way onto PC.

In spite of the myriad of complaints (mainly moans about the framerate being 'locked' to 30FPS despite being able to unlock it via an .ini tweak), I've actually had a bit of fun with it over the last two hours. It's the typical Dead Rising affair, plenty of zombies (stacks on screen at once) to mash with a variety of weapons, raging from the normal to the insane (and I mean INSANE) with body parts and blood splatters aplenty.

This time around, you can also drive and combine vehicles into mobile death dealers. It's all done 'on the fly' via your inventory screen, so feels a little artificial, but it's fun to find the blueprints to see what can be made!

It's co-op enabled, too, you can play the entire campaign with a friend - and they can also run off and explore without you needing to be in the general vicinity!

All in all, it's great fun if a little unoptimised in its current state (according to some) - but I'm playing on my Alienware laptop (i7, GTX 780M, 16GB DDR3 RAM) and it's pretty smooth at 1080!

It unlocks in three hours on my end it look like. No idea if they truncated the 52 minutes 30 seconds off of that, so it's going to be a while before I get my hands on it. I do wish the framerate unlock was an in game option, but ini tweaks are just tedious, not preventative. Looking forward to trying it at least when it's out, though I do wish it was out here sooner.

Works perfectly fine for me. This is the first Dead Rising I've played and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

I couldn't stand Dead Rising 2.  Clunky awkward mess.
