that bit

Well... I HAD an Axelord....  guess he was desperate for a bath, cause he dove into the well/cistern.  3Zs deep and about 10x10.  (makes another note for his NEXT fortress, well needs to be farther away from the barracks as sparring dwarves will fall in  :p)

Any other recommendations for avoiding that kinda thing?  Cause now I got a tomb and no body to put into it (no way to drain the cistern)

You could always try the grate method or perhaps don't put your barracks and well together.

Hell, even stick it in a seperate room.

Grate method??  Oh, and how many Z-levels can a well reach anyway, just out of idle curiosity.

No, the well and the barracks are NOT going near each other again, despite the convenience of it.  trainin his thick skulled arse took too long... and I didn't even get an epic battle to engrave

ohh, an ya'll oughta see my notebook.  First game I've ever needed notes for, and it's gettin crowded.

Z-levels? As many as you have, apparently.

(I've dug a huge cistern with access only from outside the fortress ... then dug down from my fort to connect to the cistern. The bucket travels ~ 12 z-levels to get at the water, and it works perfectly.]

Wells are okay as meeting halls AFAIK, at least none of my dwarves ever fell in
