Macros: How to?
« on: August 25, 2014, 10:09:32 pm »

I am not the most experienced here, and I do have a want for them.. Things like assigning armor to 100 dwarves in arena.

So, how do I make a basic macro to suit my purposes?

Make a dwarf with the armor you want, then ctrl+r and make another dwarf (the armor should be pre-selected at this point), then push ctrl+r again to stop recording, then ctrl+u to select the number of repetitions, then type 98 (the remaining number of dwarves) and then push ctrl+p.

Don't move the mouse off of Dwarf Fortress while the macro is running or it'll stop. It's an annoying bug, but we have to live with it for now.

Can you save macros for later use?

Always a safe default assumption in this game

Yes, they are in data/init/macros are are text files, so you can edit out any error key presses if you think its worth it :).

I didn't know about the number of repeats thing, that'll help with me making magma/water pump stacks. :P But the macros are a powerful thing, people often complain about not having quickfort and don't seem to realize that's is almost the exact same thing as the macros....
