Possesed peasants
« on: May 07, 2008, 06:15:00 pm »

One of my peasants ( Who is also a sheriff) has become possesed. All her skills are the same level, so I don't know what she wants. What should I do?

Craftsdwarf shop.  Almost always.

AFAIK she'll want to claim a workshop.
If she doesn't run straight for a workshop, try building all the workshops you don't have yet. (1)

One she's claimed a workshop, she'll go collecting items for the artefact.

(My dwarves usually take ore, bars, silk, uncut (!) gems, wood, cloth, spider silk, whatever bones are around ... almost anything really. If you make it a point to trade for items you can't get on your map, like spider silk and ores and gems, the possessed dwarves will find nearly always fid everything they need, at least in my experience.)

I'm not sure where to see what items she wants once she's claimed a workshop.
((v) (p) (z) (Enter) to get to the dwarf personality, I guess; o maybe (q) to view the building).

(1) I think I read somewhere that magma forges don't count, you need a normal metalsmith's workshop. Or was it the glass furnace where the magma version won't work? Not sure. Try the search or just build all the workshops  :)

[And yes: Jaybud is right, more than half of artifacts seem to be made in craftsdwarves' workshops.
However I think a strange mood takes a random _job_ that a dwarf has active. In my last fortress, I made lots of cloth and cloth items ... lots of clothiers ... and about 5 artefact items of clothing.
And in another thread, someone mentioned turning on weaponsmithing for every dwarf (who hadn't had a mood yet) in order to maximize the chance for an artifact weapon    :)

I don't think non-magma workshops need fuel. While franticly trying to create workshops, I found my glassmaker claimed a glass furnace and started to collect stuff. Frantic to provide fuel, I started to fuel-from-wood supply chain. Halfway through the construction of the wood burner, the construction started. I didn't have any fuel on the map.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Dwarves will get moods in their highest-skilled productive labor (i.e. no mining, weaving, or the like), regardless of what jobs they have enabled. And I don't think I've ever seen an unskilled dwarf (or a dwarf who was skilled in unproductive labors) pick a workshop other than a craftdwarf's shop.

I think this is wrong.  My adept weaponsmith/dabbling stone crafter just claimed a craftdwarfs workshop.

MyLittlePonyBuiltMyHotRod, this is your first warning. I would like to direct you to read our forum's FAQ and posting guidelines before posting again. Specifically we don't use swear words here, and your picture of Stalin riding a Year3 Limited Edition Starflower inside a German concentration camp was both upsetting and historically inaccurate.

Yeah, it's only likely that they'll pick their top skill, not guaranteed.

And dwarves fuel their creations with the pure intensity of their focus.  The only time they'll pick up a chunk of coal is when they intend to make spikes out of it to adorn their pinnacle achievement.
