Is somebody noticed mysterious cave-ins above ground
« on: August 30, 2014, 01:25:05 pm »

Hi all!

Is somebody noticed mysterious cave-ins above ground? I just got the "Something has collapsed on the surface" message in the location near the multi-tile tree above ground. My dwarves are restricted to the burrow and don't have any access to it. Also I don't see any animals around it. And yes, the tree still here.

Thanks in advance.

Is it possible you mined out the tree's roots? I heard that causes them to collapse.

Hiya,

This bug discusses exactly that issue.  Toady fixed the part where mining out the roots would cause the tree to collapse, and now the messages seem to be caused when trees grow (saplings mature, new branches, etc.), though it doesn't happen every time.

If software was real world, then it'd be something equivalent of hitting a nail with a hammer and having a building collapse on the other side of town.

Don't worry people, sometimes -moments occur
