Yes, unfortunatly fires in DF can take months to burn material. Flesh and burn the fastest, clothes and food burn slowest.

Basically, if you have a fire forbid everyhing in the vicinity.

well, i found digging a channel on the tile with burning items and then a floor on the open space solved the problem quite well. no smoke and no spreading
