So when the Z-axis is added, will there be a way to shine sunlight on dwarves above the enemy so that a dozen goblins are washed into a pit be a river of wine and half-digested plump helmets? Perhaps a new class of soldier who attempt to drown the enemy in noxious acidic goo? Perhaps mastering the art even to the extent that Lyle   has? (Link contains naughty words)

Sun roof over your main dining hall with grated floor, which is above your only trap-laiden entrance.

Gobs seige, get underneath dining hall, sunroof opens, cave-adapted dwarves puke, gobs wounds get infected.
