Still in love with DF
« on: August 26, 2014, 09:33:20 am »

I decided over the bank holiday weekend to dig through my available games, ones I "have" but really haven't had the chance to play or even install in some cases.

I gave CIV 5 and Tropico 5 and I felt something was lacking

It is amazing that the depth that we get from DF from such simple yet complex GUI (which anyone who really loves the game would never complain about given enough time)

I was even playing Watchdogs and kept pressing SHIFT+N when it came up saying "press N" because the text was showing "N" as capitalized.
What other game asks you for that eh? - love it

I have given myself a break from DF over the bank holiday weekend and I feel that break will have to come to an end soon.

One aspect I have yet to get involved in, mainly because I am more of a turtle player than a fighter, is military. Get a good military going with good weapons etc.

One thing I realized is that when push comes to shove, taking on that forgotten beast or titan without a decent army isn't the end of the world.
I had a situation with plenty of peons (my functional classification for the hauler/engraver/nobodies) at about 50 in number got drafted as wrestlers into 5 squads.
They charged at a swamp titan and although 3-4 of them got stood on, they took it down.

Is this an ideal setup, an army of part time soldiers with no skills - no
But it did open my eyes to the fact that soldiers don't need to be decked out with the best weapons and armor to be effective, just need to treat them as "those that I am happy to die" so i don't feel i need to reload my fortress when 10 of them get knocked down in a fight.. that is their job

Still in love with the game, would hope that some niggly things eventually get worked on (my big wish list item is the ability to make jobs work on a priority system, say a simple 1-2-3 numbering so that you can multi-skill guys without risking having to micro-manage them too much. When there are no mining jobs to be done, switch to plant gathering.. simple right?)

Dwarf Fortress suffers from many bugs and other irksome things. Rattlesnakes should breed (I WANT MY VIPER PIT), throwing shouldn't decapitate bronze collosi, and big dwarves should use longswords.

Still love the game though.

This is an exceptional golden figurine of a Peregrine Falcon. All Maltese craftsmanship is of the highest quality. It is studded with Baguette-cut diamonds. It is covered in black lacquer. The item is a masterfully designed image of a pointed cross. The pointed cross is the symbol of the Knights Hospitaller.
