Cloth used in strange moods.
« on: May 07, 2008, 08:15:00 am »

My legendary engraver recently went into a strange mood, claimed a craftdwarf's workshop and went around gathering materials. She finally stopped, however, and sat in the workshop requesting other objects. After checking, it seems she wants, in addition to the two stones and metal bar she has already collected, some cloth.

The problem is that I already have some small stacks of cloth, both dyed and un-dyed, imported for such an event. I've tried moving it around, closer to her and forbidding/reclaiming it, but she won't budge from the workshop to collect it. Is it possible that the cloth needed for strange moods needs to be of a certain color, or of a certain type? Or is it just down to a glitch/bug, or some other factor I'm overlooking?

check that you have spare stones and metal bars because to my knowledge they only demand what the dont already have so if their asking for 2 stones, a metal bar and some cloth then that means thats what they now need and when they recieve that it is struck from the list

I'm almost certain they list everything, even stuff they already have.

Do you have both spider silk and plant fiber cloth?  Because I believe if they want one, they won't use the other.

That may be it. I only imported stacks of plant fiber cloth, and there isn't any silk lying around I can use to create some spider silk cloth. Guess it's time to  set up the first tomb in the fortress...

It's the silk, it's always the silk.  If she holds out until the dwarven caravan comes, they usually bring lots of silk.

I usually order thread from the traders and hold some in reserve (by forbidding it). If a mood comes along, I can unforbid the thread, weave it into cloth, and satisfy the mood without spending a lot of money on expensive cloth.
