What is "Overcome by terror!"?
« on: August 23, 2014, 06:54:27 am »

Part/irrelevant story that I somehow have to put here: I just embarked on a new fort. New version, new fort. Pretty good site. There was even a ton of Bauxite, and guess what, Rubies EVERYWHERE. There was also a fox very near to my wagon.
Before I go on you must know that I love foxes. Really. Before unpausing I was really happy that there was one because I hoped that I could get a pet industry running on foxes.
So one of the dogs, after the first frame played, went to chase the fox, and on the Fox' unit screen, it said it was "Overcome by terror". It ran away, but the dog outran it, and the fox died. Fucking dogs.

So my question is, what does "Overcome by terror" mean? Also, what is the "Horrified" state I have heard about?

The best way to demonstrate it to him is take a save of 40 year old fortress with 150 dwarves in it on a good sized embark with a volcano that just breached the circus and install it on his gaming rig and watch it bring his rig to its knees.

Simple stated, emotions are in. And more with the Dwarfs is every individual different in terms of bravery.
If they are overcome by terrror it basically means that they are peeing their pants in fear.
Horrified can happen if a dorf walks past a goblin corpse and happens to be a sensitive individual by which he'll promptly turn around etc.

that's the short spoilerfree explanation, i am sure someone here can chalk up more of a textwall.

No wonder it was overcome by terror, them dogs need to be nerfed.

What's next, dwarves being able to catch up with fleeing one-legged wounded goblins?

Blue Dwarf has been happy lately. He did some !!science!! recently. He admired a fine forum post lately. He was enraged by a forum troll recently. He was upset by the delayed release of the new version of Dwarf Fortress lately. He took joy in planning a noble's death recently.

Indeed. You know how he killed the fox? By scratching him 40 times. Sheesh.
