As for the cash shop, that was apparently removed at the end of alpha after a fit of rage from the testers on the forum. Gems can still be earned in game, but won't be purchasable with real currency.
Just going to bold, size it up and make it louder cause clearly people still miss this information a few pages ago...

We're not complaining about the (no longer extant) cash shop, but rather the influence it's had on gameplay, which is unnecessarily grindy. i.e. you have to build 70-something houses just to unlock settlements, so literally the only thing you can do for the first two hours or so is flatten land. 22cans might adjust things later on, like they've done with removing faith generation from early houses, or adding more chests which are easier to get to, but they've more or less withdrawn from their official forums, making it difficult to determine what they think about the feedback they're getting.

Woooo, thread necromancy!

Update 2.0 is out and it looks like it's a great update.

There's an official video explaining some of the new things, but you can also check this spoilered list:

Basically, PM admitted they were off the mark with the game at first. Unfortunately, he still doesn't get what people didn't like. He's replaced manually collecting belief through clicking with....manually collecting belief through click-dragging! People complained that it feels like a Facebook game for no reason, and the only true interaction is mindnumbingly repetitive. And that appears to still be the case.

It's also full of Molyneux-isms. "The game you've always wanted..." blah blah blah, unreachable promises.

So, someone let us know if it's actually changed or if it's just more PM blowing smoke up people's asses again.

I hoped when they said they are going back to drawing board that they will change the core of the game, but unfortunately they didn't. The only thing they changed is that you do not click 100 time or more but hold the button. The gameplay is 100% same as before, and is a pure facebook/mobile game.

If people liked the first version, but the only problem they had is how many times you need to click, they will love this update. For all others, nothing did changed, as the reason the game is bad is not because of the clicking itself, but because of the core game play.

I had some hopes for the game, but not anymore.

Woooo, more thread necromancy.

The Astari stole 135 of my followers and in retaliation I destroyed their village with 3 meteors. :D

(there's a new update which adds an opposing "tribe", the Astari, with a contest of overall happiness. The game is starting to really feel good, but some of the gameplay still feel so slow due to some mechanics inherited from mobile games)
