Be able to declare yourself a deity
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:53:13 pm »

Since we can already take over sites and seem to have deities better implemented now, it'd be very fun to be able to declare your 500+ kills adventurer or whatever a deity and have people start worshiping him. Maybe have a GUI for when you declare yourself a deity to put in what you'd be the god(des) of, as well as the ability to try and 'convert' people. This could also tie into site ownership somehow for religion-related sites, such as for making a temple be dedicated to you.

Sounds like a feature that'd go hand in hand with when the gods actually start having more of an impact on the world. I think it'd be cool to impersonate a god as well.

I would love to do this purely to run genocide campaigns against other religions.
Am I a bad person?

That sounds like it would be a good idea. One issue is that people would remember your origins and say "didn't you used to be a peasant from that town?". In order to have the declare-yourself-a-deity system to be realistic (for dwarf fortress at least) then you would have to have some sort of system that uses multiple factors to figure out whether you are believed or not.

There would need to be additional ways added for you to demonstrate your uniqueness for this system, such as being able to show extreme strength and agility in some sort of demonstration, having exceedingly unique and rare items/equipment, knowing arcane and esoteric knowledge, being able to show proof that you have traveled to hidden places or those thought not to be accessible to mortals, etc.

There could also be unique factors procedurally generated and assigned to specific gods or spheres of influence that you would have to not be in breach of in order to fool them, for example that one movie where the explorer tells the natives he is a god but then they realize he is lying when he gets cut and bleeds.

This would go hand-in-hand with the addition of more secrets.

Although, most adventurers would probably have the [DEATH] sphere, so necromantic knowledge should be fine for now.
