Allowing more than three species to roam the map at once?
« on: August 10, 2014, 04:32:46 pm »

I'm highly uninformed on this, but a post I just read (about keas and biome-containment-trapping them to keep them from stealing) said that only three types of creature are allowed to roam the wilderness (of a fort map, I presume) at once..

Was wondering if this should be raisied, for diversity? Is it set lower to avoid framerate trouble or something? And wouldn't trapping those keas auto-lock one of your three slots for potential wildlife to show up, even further thinning potential animal spawns? :| Just seems like a pretty low number, and I just got done going through almost all the creature raws and realizing just how many DF critters I've never seen before (I altered the raws so that octopi can spawn in any water, and made land-octopi, still didn't see any, haha..) :O

TL;DR SUGGESTION: Allow more wild critters to populate a map simultaneously, if possible!

I think caged animals don't count towards that limit. Usually in a given map, you'll only get a certain number of species coming in. Have you tried making fortresses in different climates? I recently got my first pandas
