Really...my monarch is a goblin......
« on: August 08, 2014, 10:59:01 pm »

My goal in any given fort is to become the mountainhome and attract the monarch of my civ. In my latest game I randomly checked the civ tab after a few years just to see a bit about the monarch I might eventually measure up to.

She is apparently a goblin fish dissector...

I mean Dwarf Fortress takes itself seriously and at the same time it doesn't, so I don't know whether something this ridiculous sounding is par for the course for the game or not.

It did however kind of kill my desire to become the mountainhome, what self respecting colony overseer would strive to earn the approval of some smelly goblin who inexplicably became the monarch of her race's natural enemies...

Is this a bug, or legit?

Your civ was conquered by goblins, who were just merciful enough to let you live under their rule.

Actually it's the other way round, OP's civ conquered the goblins and incorporated them into the empire.

DF's civs are an extremely accepting and progressive bunch. In the event that the monarch dies without an heir, the next monarch is chosen meritocratically. Despite being a fish dissector, she clearly had some grand and impressive social skills.

(Not that it would even matter, since non-dwarf monarchs in fort mode are treated more like pets than anything)

I’ve seen a goblin drunk become duke in DF2014. Then I’ve also seen a dwarf drunk as king.

Given current events, I've altered my profile pic and I'm sorry it took so long to fix. If you find the old one on any of my accounts elsewhere on the internet, let me know by message (along with the specific site) and I'll fix. Can't link the revised avatar for some reason.

Who else was gonna be the king? a weaponsmith?

My weaponsmiths are too busy making masterful menacing wooden spikes or silver bolts to have any social skills.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Dwarf Fishworker or Dwarf Drunk...

hum...

Which makes the better king...

...hang on guys, give me a chance here to think this through...

...
...

The drunk of course.  Only dwarf good to be king is a True Dwarf, and any dwarf that isn't drunk isn't true.

Now you need to become the Mountainhome even more, so you can cross your fingers and hope they actually migrate in, before having some type of overly complicated mechanism of torture and death accident relieve the Goblin of their duties.

Then wait to see if you get a new King/Queen, for science of course.

He wants to be like Cacame. He deserves to die for this heresy.

1 - Become the Moutainhome.
2 - Wait for a goblin siege.
3 - Send him alone to fight.

Easy.

It is up to you to usher in a new age of reclaimed dwarven royalty.

Just become a mountainhome, allow the filthy goblin king to migrate, and rig up an 'accident'...

Hopefully his heir will be a dwarf.  Otherwise, more 'accidents'...

You are, after all, TheFreshPrince...
