I created a universe, picked a race at random (Giant Behemoth-thingy), named myself, and found myself in a giant field of blue. Using the travel screen I went to a group of buildings and found a bunch of other Behemoths that followed me about. Unfortunately I got stuck between the buildings and couldn't get out, so I quit.

Then I created an Ice Dragon. I found a kingdom of Ice Dragons, but there was no one there. Maybe Ice Dragons live underground. So I decided to terrorise some leprechauns. I wandered around for a bit in the leprechaun kingdom, and realised that the brown arrows which, although they seemed to represent empty space, were in fact very small people who I hadn't noticed at first. Hehe! Little people! I went over to stamp on them, and got hit loads of times before being knocked onto the floor. I pressed 'up' a couple of times in the hope that this would cause me to stomp on the tiny people and the word 'HIT' rose up in the air, although I don't know whether this was me or them. Regardless, they all hit me loads of times and knocked me unconscious. Then I died. Those guys may be small, but they're wiry.

Then I tried a Blood Fiend. Exactly the same thing happened, only I got knocked unconscious the moment I walked up to some puny humans, and died even faster than my Ice Dragon.

So... back to the thread title, really. How do you survive your first encounter with some inferior beings?

Well, since this game is hardly even started, you really aren't supposed to survive your first encounter yet, since there are many many opponents in each town.  This is compounded by the fact that instructions are very sparse now.  To attack a creature, you have to click on the leftmost sword in your buttons (to go to attack mode -- you can also press '2') then just right click on opponents in the main view.  You will walk over and attempt to strike them.  Sometimes creatures are hard to locate, because the towns have variable populations.  There will usually be a few creatures placed in a given cluster of buildings, but not always.

You can get at least the attack information by clicking on the question mark in the lower right (or pressing 'h') when you are playing.

You can press tab to make little circles appear around everybody.  This will help you navigate around buildings and it makes attacking people a lot easier, which makes the game slightly fun.

The game is Very not finished, and there is absolutely no point.  All you can do now is go to a town, and fight the creatures there until you are dead -- some people have had a bit of success, but not that much.  Over the next few months things will get more interesting.
