So I've created a Wack-a-Goblin game
« on: May 30, 2017, 11:42:49 pm »

So I was experimenting with bridges and levers and I came up with this idea of making a sort of spiral maze with bridges that divide the sections.

I was planing on filling it with cage traps to start a coliseum, but then... "A vile force of darkness has arrived."
I burrow my dwarfs, close the entrances to my fortress, and observed as the goblins enter the maze. To my surprise the full invasion got inside,
I saw the chance and I took it, why endanger my military when I can just lock them up and starve them out. And then it clicked, >:D a cluster of goblins gathered under one of the inside bridges of the maze and Armok whispered i my ear "Just DO IT!" and before I knew I was playing wack-a-mole with them

and this is what the whole scenario looks like if you guys want to reproduce the experiment.

A Dwarf knows that every passage should also be used to smash Goblins.

Did the cow in the middle survive?

Indeed, thanks to the bridge system the cow is safe from any goblin filth. I've also implemented more bridges in order to catch anything that is trap void in the tunnels and still be able to use the system.

Also I had to slaughter the cow #TimesOfNeed :p, I now use a giant eagle[tame] to lure them in. which saved my fortress from a fire breathing FB.

And surprisingly (maybe thanks to a bug), the giant eagle is still alive after 3 months of repeated fire blasts from the FB 0.o\ I am now forced to build a statue in its honor.

As promised here is my tribute to the giant eagle, Hero of the Mindful Gravels xD

PS. the name in the original language of the beast is Lekdothrem.

Quick update:

The eagle actually killed the beast!! the battle logs reset so I couldn't see the action, however I know she did it because she was given a name (which the game does when a creature kills another sapient creature or so I read.)

Suggestion: Add some access bridges near the initial bridge on the right to allow for easier Dorf access to the maze's contents.

I didn't actually say this.

there is nothing funnier than watching a goblin army get assaulted by hundreds of war chickens.

Any new discovery, sufficiently weaponize, is indistinguishable from !!FUN!!

I hear you, the problem is I have way too many levers, 180 to be exact; and they are all in a lever room which is also my dining room, I call it the "Base of Operations" but the game calls it the Baker of Bowels xD. I lay the levers in the same position as the structures I connect them to so I know what they are for.

Example:

levers are becoming less of an option this days, I think I'll be trying pressure plates soon. Thank you very much for the suggestion, keep'em coming ^^

I use a double spiral for siege "entrance" to my forts; it has a raising bridge at the entrance and exit, and a chained animal in the middle to lure the gobbos in.  I usually line it with cage traps, but have also lined them with repeating spike traps for some tasty gobbo sushi; this setup is *devastatingly* effective (especially with 10 spikes per square and all spikes linked to one lever).  "Oy, Urist McWasteofspace, grab that lever and swing on it until I tell you to stop!"
