My old one is staring to give indications of a hard drive failure and the graphics driver is 2 years old so it keeps crashing because HP wont update their drivers for god knows what reason. I'm going off to collage and in need something that works well for school work and can run games fairly well, preferably under 500 with a large amount of memory and a screen bigger than 768 resolution 1080 if possible but that's not required.

For under $500 you can easily get a new decent laptop for school use at Best Buy, Amazon, eBay, etc.

1080p may be harder to find for your price.

I would not buy a used laptop from eBay.

What kind of games do you need to run? What's the most graphically demanding game you own?

mostly paradox strategy games but i also have skyrim that i will get around to playing again some day and some warthunder if they fix the problems. 1080 would just be nice but not required. as long as its not 768.

Again, above 768 resolution will probably be above $500

those are too cheap. 768 is vary annoying with paradox games the UI is off especially if you use mods. 500 is just a range it could be more but not to much more.
