I know only the very basic bits of modding and i am looking to just spice up my games slightly,
Please keep in mind don't want to make the game outright silly i want to keep it pretty close to vanilla
Could try having ToughLeather material, from big beasts like rhino, elephant, ogre. (done in OldGenesis; fur, suede, leather, hide, demonskin, dragonskin)
Could try GoodWood material, from real-world furniture trees like Oak and Teak (done in OldGenesis; crap wood value 1, fair 2, good 3) (10 hours of research)
Add a new creature Goblin Adventurer or Injured Human Adventurer, wanders into your fort like she was a duck.

Edit init/announcements.txt to see more combat fun stuff IN FORT MODE (add a D_D tag). like [COMBAT_TWIST_WEAPON:A_D:D_D:UCR]

A vey minor cosmetic mod I've made is to change the symbols used to name wars etc, with different entities using different themes.

E.g. Dwarves = Wealth, Humans = Assertive, Elves = Nature, Goblins = Evil

That way, when looking through the Legends, you have an idea of who started any particular fight from the name, and it also gives a bit of culture to the different civilizations.

Well that sounds like a great idea.  Thank you.

Add a new creature Goblin Adventurer or Injured Human Adventurer, wanders into your fort like she was a duck.

Duplicating the humanoids and making a semi-megabeast variant, calling them deranged adventurers or something, with some natural skill with weapons/dodging and spawns with weapons like a minotaur is quite fun. If they survive worldgen, they sometimes wind up with legendary combat skills. Which is terrifying and highly amusing.

Also adding regional effects for neutral or good regions, like clouds of fairies or sandstorms in deserts is also quite entertaining.

If you'd like to make one for me, I would add it into OldGenesis.  Should be a rare occurrence.

I have a couple examples that work at the moment for 34.11, but I havent had the time to fiddle them into working for the new version. I'll post them anyway. Just don't claim they were originally yours, if you use them, please.

Have a whole list of other neat regional interactions and associated plants and creatures I wanted to write up, but like I said, I've been strapped for time lately.

Speaking of good region interactions, I have some ones I hacked up for .34.11 not long ago. But these ones are supposed to ensorcell your dwarves and gradually make them lose focus (and sometimes get fevered and dizzy...!) as long as they're outside.

I really wish, there was some way to make the real time speed up hundreds of years in good regions as if it were actually fairyland.

etc. in the raws to give credit. Like with Warlord255's BONFIRE materials. (workshop that starts bushfire at will)
Maybe I'll make a snowstorm & pollen cloud to irritate dorfs.

The thing I always did when I got a bit bored is tweak the dwarven ethics so that they can eat anyone and make trophies from their corpses and enjoy -elf roasts-. I usually add [SHELL] to the scale template and [HORN] to the nail template so you can use all the parts of the buffalo.

Putting [YARN] on feathers is something I've seen, but that seems weird to me.
