It's a free-to-play multiplayer freeform mystery chat game that broke my Dota addiction.  It is just spectacularly good fun.  You roleplay a character, and go nuts, and it has text to speech dialogue.  Just try it, it's on Steam too.  (Even better with alcohol).

Um Do Not Get This Game...

You Get Perma-banned over stupid things (The Game itself bans you... and no playing after ban)

1.Typing To fast...
2. Breaking Immersion (Porn Talk is actually Allowed making it spammable)
3. No asking for help.

also It is FREE-TO-PLAY

one mode is not locked behind a paywall.
hosting private servers is locked behind a paywall.
And more

Well, if you're going to try this game, try it now.

I've had 3 good games out of about 10. It's much more fun when everybody is new and clueless but still pretends not to be and tries to RP and win.

As time goes on this will go the way of Moonbase Alpha, first the good players get bored because the game is too small and leave, then the trolls take over to play with the text-to-speech and then it fades into oblivion. So the window of possible enjoyment of this game is closing fast.

I still check this but I'm at a stage where I don't care about the objectives anymore and just want to play with people's minds.

I probably agree with you there, Wardo.  I can see it becoming a bit stake maybe once the initial novelty wears off, and game quality can be really up and down.  But I really hope this spawns a new genre of online drama games.  Also the OS requirement for the website is really odd!

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. There are a few unsubstantiated reports of people on the Steam forums being banned for typing too fast but unless you're spamming one word a second (which is absolutely not necessary to play this game) that's not going to happen. I type very fast (150WPM) and haven't been banned. One scenario is free. The free scenario cycles every week. If you want to play the other scenarios (I think there are only two right now anyway) then you need to subscribe to premium or wait 7 days for the next cycle.

I also haven't heard of anyone being banned for breaking immersion, though it is possible. Velvet Sundown isn't a virtual chatroom where you just run around saying whatever you want: each character has clear objectives, and if you want to have fun, it's helpful if you roleplay your character appropriately. There are no private servers (though there are promises they'll be added later).

I had a lot of fun with the game when it first came out -- haven't really touched it since then. It's a lot of fun manipulating people into assisting you. It reminds me of Mafia in that regard. In one match, I had to steal data from Explon. I actually managed to verify who my teammate was in the first couple of minutes, and together we coerced the guy with the tazer into stealing the data disks for us. We both "won" in like 10 minutes, so we spent the remaining 20 scamming the rest of the passengers out of their money. We established contact with the Explon agents and pretended to be freelancers who could acquire the data they needed, then just took their money and ran.

Once, I spawned as the tazer guy and managed to acquire all four of the discs very quickly. Then I offered to sell them to the highest bidder. Each interested party only had $100,000 so that wasn't really working, until two of them pooled their cash. Then the other two pooled their cash, so I chose at "random". I decided to sell to Team Explon, and they paid me. Before giving Explon the disks, I told Team Balboil if they gave me their money I wouldn't give the disks to Explon. They did. +$400,000 for me, and no one else fulfilled their objectives. I really think there needs to be either another guy with a tazer or some way to counter the tazer guy -- you literally can't do anything if he's the one who winds up with the data disks. He can even give you the disks first, then once you pay him, taze you and take the disks back. He basically doesn't ever expose himself to any risk.

During a different round, I was an Explon agent and decided to try a different strategy. I took a leap of faith and trusted a guy who told me he was a freelancer. Then I gave him my CID and told him to pose as an Explon agent to establish contact with the other Explon agent, and ideally, figure out who was with Balboil. Then he could return the CID to me. In return, I'd help him fulfill his secondary objectives. It mostly worked -- I found out who was who, but the lady with the data disks was AFK so the round eventually ended with nothing happening. (You can't taze people who refuse to talk to you.)

Once it's a bit more polished, Velvet Sundown could definitely be loads of fun. It still is, even in its current state, so I'm really looking forward to future development.

Ugh!  The text-to-speech voices have been DISABLED, ruining everything that made it entertaining.  The note on the title screen says they were disabled for non-premium users due to high server demand... which means either...

a)  The devs were stupid and had all the audio files generated on a server and sent to every player???  There's no logical reason I can see for "servers" to be in any way involved in the TTS generation.  Which leads me to suspect...
b)  The devs are getting greedy and are locking the fun behind a paywall instead of having the balls to just charge for the game.

I'm pretty pissed at this, since I came to the game for some inebriated entertainment and it broke.  Whatever's going on is down to some unintelligent planning/design.  Or a frantic monetisation scramble while they are enjoying a boom in popularity.  So yeah, this coupled with some other strangeness surrounding the game doesn't fill me with confidence and pushes all the wrong buttons in my book.  Stay away until they get their act together.  Ugh!   >:(

or
c) the devs use a 3rd party, online TTS provider so they can't distribute the TTS software with their game, and they're paying for the service out of pocket by the amount of requests.

Yeah I followed the links to the TTS service provided, so I can see that being a possibility - but the case still stands that they are not all too smart, because with a high demand and a potentially low adoption rate of the premium content they are backing a loser that could drive the game into the ground, as it has done now (i.e. they have a loss-leading business model that isn't generating revenue).  I love the concept of the game, and it can and does work in practice, but I'm really disappointed with the way these devs have handled it in terms of monetisation, the TTS restrictions and the obviously flawed game mechanics.
