No Dwarftalk for over a year? and Where do I start?

OK, havn't played DF in over a year (because I check for Dwarf Fortress talks, cause I love the music, and then download the latest version and play for a few months)

I'm no expert, the way I usually play is I start with 7 dwarves, and I build a tomb and 6 coffins, and I'm happy If I can get the tomb decorated before all my dwarves die.


so, having not played in a year, where should I start?

say, my start goal is to strangle a bunch of people. so strangling key commands would be helpful.

I also want to make a small pocket world with no rain, and maybe 1 river.
