Baby werecivet???
« on: July 18, 2014, 04:51:56 pm »

Wow. Werebeasts have changed. The werecivet arrived and wrought havoc. Killed my elite marksdwarves before I could get the drawbridge raised. Slaughtered my militia commander. Finally succumbed to all the dogs and everybody else piling in unexpectedly.

Victory of a sort I thought.

A little while later I have strengthened my external fortifications and am rebuilding. Necromancer turns up so I close the drawbridge and send the civilian population to hide in my meeting hall. A baby werecivet appeared to sprout from the arms of my manager in the safe haven.  Wow!  The end!

Anybody else seen similar? Any suggestions for what happened? Thoroughly enjoying df2014. New levels of !FUN!

Before werebeasts were awfully fast as well and as for your military, I would put the blame on a broken fighting system for now.

All I can suggest is have an entrance with some fighting animals chained to it and surrounded by traps. So when the dogs attack or something, the invader will dodge into a cage trap. If that doesn't work it will at least buy time to raise the bridges, I also put baits out on the surface as well, such as chained kittens surrounded by walls and cage traps.

The funny thing about this was that the were baby appeared underground in my safe place. Admittedly my guard dogs had all died repulsing the first adult werecivet. Still seems odd nobody noticed it on the way down?

Could the managers baby have been cursed by the original were?

Is it just coincidence that it struck when the necromancer arrived and raised the dead? (Civilians all clustered together and military dwarves defending the perimeter)

Was it during a full moon? One of the babies in the fortress must have been bitten by the werecivet and survived if that is the case.
Entities with the werecurse are only in wereform during full moon.

When a dwarf is bitten by a werecreature, it becomes one itself.

Best way to deal with a bitten dwarf:

1) kill it's friends and family. You don't want to have your fortress crumble to it's end due to tantruming, just when you succesfully managed to rid your fort of a werebeast.
2) kill it's firends' and family's friends and families. Same reason as 1)
3) kill any dwarf that still has someone listed as 'friend' or 'family' in it's relations list. Similar reasons as 1) and 2), you can never be to sure.
4) Now, if there is any dwarf left alive in your fortress to do so, attack the foul werecreature and kill it
5) Abandon
6) Profit

Thanks martinuzz. Maybe best to pre-emptively euthanise all dwarfs on embark? ;-)

Killing his friends and family would cause a tantrum, so you would need to kill the friends and family friends and family, and so over until you have no dwarfs left.
6) Profit

That doesn't seem particularly dangerous. Adorable, yes. A nuisance, probably. But... I guess werebeasts are stronger then the sum of their parts.

That was my original reaction. Was surprised the adult destroyed my squads so comprehensively. Was stunned the baby annihilated my civ population.
