Disturbing Tree Roots
« on: July 15, 2014, 12:12:35 pm »

First off, I haven't thrown my hat in the ring yet by saying this update is amazing!

I left a couple trees on the surface above my fort that I thought I might like to keep.  I haven't figured out how to mine around the roots without tagging them.  The warning message only comes up after the tree is already killed.  Any advice for us tree hugging dwarfs?

It's much unrealistic, so I'm sure it will be fixed at least to a point where the tree dies, but not just disappears. The only question is when.

When you think you're close to the roots, only mine one stripe at a time (make sure all the walls you designate for mining are visible).  When the roots are finally revealed, you will see where not to cut.

I don't get it. How do you dig tree roots? I tried designating some for digging, did nothing. Treecutting designation, neither. Nor plant gathering.

So what do you mean by 'tagging' the roots?

Is there a bug maybe that allows designating them for digging when they are still undiscovered, which does not work on already revealed tree roots?

The designation doesn't show up on tree roots, but digging/channeling does work.
