Madness In DF?
« on: July 13, 2014, 08:24:21 pm »

Well, I'm not sure if anyone noticed it, but a major bug was caused that was just removed that cloned the adventurer after a retire. The reaction for it on some threads is rather... Astonishing to say the least. The player who reported it from the thread I saw was ranting and asking if Toady accidentally added madness to DF because his character was cloned and shouting garbage at his character (so he was shouting at himself).

This sparked an idea I think should be implemented into DF: some way to induce madness upon dwarves and adventurers, although it would be most likely to Adventurers as they can go through post traumatic stress disorder and end up with this after many cases. The way how I thought of doing so is having a second personality that is on the same position as you and shares your name and it does not hinder or help you, and no one can see it or hear it but you. So you can have an entire conversation with this guy and people will question you on who you're talking to (think Deadpool in this sense).

This is just an idea and its a thought sparked by a glitch that would be a pretty cool idea, even if its never implimented

I think you can already do that in dwarf mode. Just kill the dwarf's family or stop him from completing a strange mood and the dwarf will go mad.

It's implied that this is what "Stark raving mad!" is. I'm sure (not even remotely sure) that Toady will implement something like this in adventure mode, now that your own character can have emotions.

With the extra emotions that exist now, it could be changed from a few types of madness (the game already had stark raving mad, berserking, tantruming, etc) there could be entire emotional disorders now.  A dwarf takes injuries multiple times and develop the tendency to get scared of everything.  A dwarf oscillates in and out of tantrums and happiness over and over again until they develop some dwarvish form of bipolar disorder.
