Hey guys, did I just divide by zero?

Stop me if you've seen this, but do you often end up with stuff like this?

Yes, there's a complete reproduction of the object it's supposed to be on it.

This is actually very common.

I understand that it is disappointing when a dwarf makes a spiked loincloth instead of an axe.

Happens all the time.

Its much more awesome when you get two artifacts with pictures of each other.

I like it when a Dwarf is making the object, and describes him making the object itself... while the object itself is describing about how its about the dwarf making itself. Stuff like that is more rare.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

Still far from as impressive as planepacked, which has 73 self references.

Happens all the time.

How in Armok's multiverse can that happen?

Art image decorations are not generated in full detail until you actually view them (as I recall, this was done to reduce lag during worldgen when it was creating large numbers of item decorations), and they draw from all valid targets without regard to the time they were created, so it's possible for an art image to depict a future event if you don't look at it right away (e.g. if the art image is created in year 100 and you don't view it until year 102, it might end up depicting an event from year 101).

Engraved walls and floors are not subject to this behavior, though, since it needs to know what the image depicts in order to decide what tile to display.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

The answer is simple - ambidextrous smiths. They create both artifacts simultaneously.

The entire content consists of senseless murder, a pile of faceless naked women and zero regard for human life in general, all in the service of the protagonist's base impulses. It is clearly a cry for help from a neglected, self absorbed and disempowered juvenile badly in need of affectionate guidance. What a sad, sad display.
