Anyone got trouble farming?
« on: July 08, 2014, 02:27:59 pm »

I started a new fort and set up underground farms. I have plump helmet, pig tail and cave wheat seeds, no other seeds, however the farms don't let me plant CW or PT, the option doesn't appear. PH are planted fine.

I read elsewhere that the plantable seeds available in the menu for a given season are determined by the current season, not the season you've selected. So. Wait until summer and see if anything changes?

^This.

It happened to me on my embark where cave wheat and pig tails weren't available as options to plant, even though I had the seeds for it. However, when it became summer, the options became available not only for the normal planting seasons of summer and autumn, but also for spring and winter as well. Unfortunately, my game corrupted itself before I could see if the dwarves would plant crops out-of-season.

Update:
It seems that if out-of-season crops are selected for farming, (Pig tails in Spring) then the dwarves will still attempt to plant it. However, on their attempt, the crop will immediately fail, and the seed will be lost.

So, try to remember when each crop grows when & keep them selected for planting in the correct season, and you should be fine.
