After a polite discussion with local rivals...
« on: September 04, 2014, 08:54:12 pm »

One and a half years after the start of my new world, my Militia Commander lead a coup, I assume, and became Queen.

After a polite discussion with local rivals, Onul Rungabbey has claimed the position of queen of the Present Lance.

She has, and I quote, no children, no spouse, no blood relations at all. She has an iffy memory, poor empathy, little patience, a poor ability to manage or understand social relationships and very little linguistic ability. She finds blind honesty foolish.

So, all around, perfect queen material.

So, was this a coup? I don't know what she expects - I only have 40 dwarves. I don't even have a military yet. What happened to the old Queen? >.>

What happened to the old Queen?
Most likely killed by goblins, with no remaining heir to the throne.

Well, my Liaison disappeared. How curious.

However, I'm still getting traders from the Mountain Home. My efforts are legend.

I want to know what kind of monarchy is decided based on backroom dealings, upon which a civilization's leader is randomly elected. I didn't vote for her.

Bright Side: All her mandates are Bin-Based.

Historically? Very nearly all of them. Examples include asking a nearby country for a monarch if your own line has gone extinct or is somehow deemed unworthy, and asking some friendly head of state to pick which of your royal heirs has the best claim to the throne. Also, exchanging access to royal lineage intermarriage for goods and services.

I'm sure it was some kind of farcical aquatic magmatic ceremony involving a magma man and a pickaxe.

Listen, some fiery tosser lying in wait distributing mining tools is no basis for a system of governance.

Why, if I said I was king 'cause some molten bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd call me mad!

More to the point, my Liaison came. He proceeded to tell me what had happened over the year. A single Goblin civilization had taken three Dwarven civilizations and crushed them. Then my civilization fought its way back into vogue.

I suppose I'm now the Mountainhome. In regards to monarchies, I always assumed they were decided by blood. I knew there was a fair bit of cloak and dagger, though.

Not a Game of Thrones fan, eh?
