With the new update I've been very curious about Dark Fortresses. Even looking through legends it turns out gods like to interact with demons and give them a fancy slade lair on the surface because they feel like it. Has anyone managed to find out more about them? Do they have a portal to hell in these fortresses? A lot of demons lurking around? Would building a fortress near them be a good idea?

Can you use the ritual slabs to summon your own demons?

Actually, I think I got confused. Are they called vaults or Dark Fortresses? I thought pits were the areas that had goblins but I could be wrong.

I was play adventure mode today and entered one of these. On the map they are called Dark Fortresses. It was surrounded with pits, I did not explore them since I wanted to get to the fortress. In legends mode it has said an underworld creature build a spire connecting the underworld to the surface in the fortress. The fortress was filled with what must have been bedrooms and prison cells.

There wasn't one goblin in the entire fortress though, it was a smaller world so there may have only been a few or they may have been killed. The 'spire' to the underworld was basically a huge floor in the ground of a large room. Though I wasn't thinking and decided to jump down it to find out if it went to the underworld. It did, though next time I will climb down.

Vaults are seperate from dark fortresses, but as far as I know, you'll find vaults many times in dark fortresses.
