Well, I manged to get my hands on one of these slabs (thanks to some extensive cheating)

It says "I am Juno, once of the Underworld. By Pado Beguilerfrayed, I bind myself to this place."

I'm going to try to track down this demon and chuck the slab at him, see if anything happens.

Any other ideas?

The Vaults are surface features, but they're death traps on their own. No-one's survived one for long without modding/cheating.

If you find one, best to mark the location and come back when you've got mega equipment and skills.

If you find the demon's name that was on the slab, you can invoke their true name to either banish it, or force it into your service. Really really awesome.

Now, remember that I had a problem with the demon having a different name on the slab? Turns out that's the plot of it all!

It's his true name, that's why there's a difference.

I saved and went ahead to see what each option does.
Banishing:

It just says that "(Demon name) has vanished.", leaves a puff of smoke and all their clothes. Mind you, my race is 100x human size and the clothes are still large for me. This thing was a beast that I just deleted from existence.
The legends simply say "In the early spring of 111, Elo (only first name!) vanished in Sinfultender. (the dark fortress)

Commanding:
Messed up. Made a copy of the save so I could view legends, but it was incomplete. Unuseable. There's another vault nearby, I'll try to get that slab and make my way to that other demon. 
No, I'm crashing now. Making a new world and hunting down andother slab/demon. Eh...
