This is only my second season. First season caravan showed up, I traded with them, made an agreement. They left without issue.

Second season spring rolled around, suddenly a dozen markdwarfs show up and invade me. Luckily I'm seal up tight. This doesn't make any sense at all.

There is no reason for them to be mad at me at all. hitting C doesn't give me any insight as to why they'd invade me.

It's either a bug, bandits, or your dwarf civ is at war with another dwarf civ. Which is really unusual, but not impossible AFAIK. If they're not listed in the Civilisations screen as "at war", then it's probably not an invading army.

My guess is either a bunch of dwarf bandits decided to stop by, or there's some bug with the army-handling code that makes them hostile to you.

When I push c I only get my home civ listed, no one else listed there. Anyway to find out if they're bandits?

copy the save to other DF folder, abandon, and look at the legends.

It might be possible that a dwarven mountainhome got conquered by goblins/elves/humans and those attackers come from that location.

Though, given the lack of civilization in civ screen, it's rather unlikely, and I don't know yet how this works in the latest version.

Something seems different about the civ screen then the last version. I remember seeing some relationships or something last time. When I push C, I just get my home civ listed, and I can tab to see agreements..that's it.. C is the place I should be looking right?

"C" only populates in-game as civs are revealed to you.  For example, you won't see the kobolds until you find a kobold, the elves til they show up, etc.

I can confirm the civ screen doesn't show all civs, my current fort is in a world with two dwarf civs but only mine is listed.

The sieging dwarves showed up right away in spring second year. Seems early for a siege also doesn't it?

No elves showed up, and no regular dwarf caravan has showed up, we're almost through autumn.
and so far no immigration since the first year either.

Has anyone else had any experience with bandits? Is this consistent with what bandit behavior should look like?

8 all marksdwarfs. They stood around for a year..

now that they left, elves showed up right away, and then an immigration wave of 21..dammit.. didn't want that many. But I missed the dwarf caravan last year, and really needed the iron..not a single piece on the map. Even when I opened my fort (After laying out like 20 traps) they wouldn't attack me. Buggers. They just sat around. Originally they were trapped on the other side of a river, but it froze in winter and when it did i figured they'd come rushing in, but they didn't. So I just stopped caring about them.

Problem was missed caravans.

In 0.40, kobolds don't show up here for me.  At least, not after encountering multiple kobold thieves.  Not sure what would happen if kobolds sieged me.  I've never seen a kobold siege in all the years I've played DF.

Being sieged by goblin bandits (total 10 goblins) also doesn't put anything on the c screen.  I think the absence of an entry here is your first indication that these are in fact bandits, and not official representatives of His Greenness.

Being visited by human or elven merchants does put entries on the c screen.
