Any way to make trees not drop stuff that carpenters use?
« on: June 12, 2014, 12:39:29 am »

So far the best I've come up with is to make trees out of a material that melts at room temperature, so that it becomes a glob (different ITEM type) which then can't be used for carpentry. Which works, but the problem with that is that dwarves then go around cleaning up the wood, which destroys it *facepalm* Is there any other way to make it start out as a different item type than WOOD (logs), or quickly and reliably transform into something else outside of the player's control?

(The eventual goal here is to force the player to do additional processing of wood before it can be used, for example sawing into boards and drying)

Dwarf fortress in 50 words: You start with seven alcoholic, manic-depressive dwarves. You build a fortress in the wilderness where EVERYTHING tries to kill you, including your own dwarves. Usually, your chief imports are immigrants, beer, and optimism. Your chief exports are misery, limestone violins, forest fires, elf tallow soap, and carved kitten bone.
