Meph, your account got squished!

"This account's public links are generating too much traffic and have been temporarily disabled!"

Do we have any alternatives to get updates?

It would help me to know if Github has a max. traffic limit as well. Does anyone know?

Mdf has about 10-15000 downloads a month, with 60mb per download thats 600-900gb traffic.

I love it when they don't disclose things like that :( (ouch on that bandwidth btw, that alone would cost you over $100/month with EC2 - just bandwidth!)

Well, torrent distribution is an option to lighten the load. If you're getting that many downloads, it's a serious one, too. Check out http://openbittorrent.com for a tracker. Very much no maintenance, there.

EDIT: let me know if you need/want any help seeding at first, if you go that route. I've got a dedi I can throw at the purpose for a while.

I know if you make a github pages thing, and you get a lot of traffic they'll shut it down until you pay for it. So maybe?

If GH does balk (and they probably won't, GH support is fantastic) you can always throw it on Cloudflare's free tier. It's free, unlimited bandwidth, and very very fast.

I doubt GH will complain though. As long as it's an active open source project, it should be fine. There are a few githubbers who play DF, too.

There are no explicit bandwith limitations. the ToS says

Quote
If your bandwidth usage significantly exceeds the average bandwidth usage (as determined solely by GitHub) of other GitHub customers, we reserve the right to immediately disable your account or throttle your file hosting until you can reduce your bandwidth consumption.[/q]

A quote I found while researching this is:

Quote
We don’t have any hard limits.
Every now and then a massive porn site hotlinks a JavaScript file or something and we have to ban them, but it’s so incredibly rare that you’ll ever run into any problems.

I have also never heard that someone was forced to subscribe

That would work. Torrent's not a bad option though :P

Alternatively, if you install Git, you can keep your repository up to date with the Github one and just git pull to keep up to date without downloading the full 60mb every time. :)

Yea, but what you see in Git is not necessarily a release.

Now, meph, if you'd be so kind as to include commit IDs in the release threads, we could use -that- to pull it via git ;)
